James Tarkowski outlines what Everton must do to qualify for Europe

Everton are in a race for Europe heading into the business end of the season.

It’s been years since that’s been the case, with Carlo Ancelotti’s 2020/21 side the last Everton team to be in with a shout of Europe at this stage of the season.

David Moyes’ men are currently level on points with seventh-placed Brentford, who occupy a Conference League spot.

James Tarkowski suggests Everton need two or three unexpected results

Speaking to Everton’s website, Tarkowski appeared to suggest that the Toffees need to pull out a couple of shock results to qualify for Europe/.

“The league is so tight, it’s ever so tight,” the 33-year-old stated.

“There’s a lot of teams chasing these positions now, so it’s on us. I’ve said we need probably two or three special days to get where we want to go, so hopefully we can start that next weekend against Liverpool because that’s what’s going to get us where we want to be.

“We’re in a good position. We had a massive win at home not so long ago. The break probably didn’t come at a great time for us really, but it’s one of those things and now we can get back to our home after such a massive win there last time and hopefully go again.”

It’s estimated that Everton will need around 60 points to finish in the top seven, so they’ll need 13 points from the last 18 available.

Four wins will probably do it, so they’ll be targeting maximum points against West Ham, Crystal Palace, Sunderland and Tottenham Hotspur.

This weekend’s Merseyside Derby is also a big opportunity for Everton, as a win would move them just two points behind the Reds.
