Ibrahima Konate remains on course to leave Liverpool as a free agent at the end of June 2026.
An update last week suggested that Konate’s contract talks with the Reds were advancing as we head towards the end of the season.
However, a deal is still not over the line, with some small clauses still needing to be agreed upon before the contract will be made official.

Ibrahima Konate contract clauses still need to be agreed
Fabrizio Romano provided the update on his official YouTube channel this week, saying that the deal remains in an advanced stage but is not over the line yet.
He said: “Why the new contract is not official yet? How is the status? Let me clarify something. Last week I told you guys that the deal is advancing to the final stages between Ibrahima Konate and Liverpool but it’s not done yet.
“Done means agreed, signed, approved by lawyers on club and player side, and that’s not the case yet. Why advanced? Because the numbers of the contract are almost okay when it’s about the salary. So the agreement on those numbers are quite okay. But there are some small details, but still important to clarify between Konate and Liverpool.
“And those details are regarding some clauses into the contract. I’m not talking about release clauses. I’m talking about specific clauses that they are discussing Liverpool and Ibrahima Konate. Clauses into the contract can be, for example, the bonuses linked to trophies and these sort of things. So the guaranteed salary is almost okay but there are some clauses to clarify.

“That’s why the new contract is still not green light signed tomorrow. That’s the point. But advancing to important stages in the recent weeks. So let’s wait for the outcome of these details before we know what’s going to happen with Ibrahima Konate.”
Liverpool urged to sign Ibrahima Konate alternative
So while a deal isn’t done yet, it does appear as though the stopper, who initially joined for £35m (BBC Sport), is close to staying at Anfield.
However, Konate’s form has been mixed across the 2025/26 season, including in the recent loss to PSG.
In turn, amid news regarding a new contract, Don Hutchison urged Liverpool to sign Jarell Quansah and let their current centre-back go.
He said: “I’d be tempted to let [Konate] go and bring Quansah back.”
Liverpool reportedly hold a buy-back clause for their former defender, which is said to be around £69.7m and active until the end of May, 2026.
