Man Utd legend's post after controversial decision in Man Utd 1-2 Leeds goes viral [video]

Lisandro Martinez received a controversial red card in Manchester United's defeat against Leeds United at Old Trafford on Monday evening.

United went into the match as the heavy favourites but found themselves two goals down in the opening half-hour after Noah Okafor's brace.

The Red Devils' chances of getting back into the game took a huge blow when Martinez was sent off after tugging Dominic Calvert-Lewin's hair.

Despite the man disadvantage, United rallied and halved the deficit with 21 minutes remaining through Casemiro. Despite their best efforts, the home side couldn't find an equaliser and fell to a 2-1 defeat.

Rio Ferdinand's Post After Lisandro Martinez's Red Card

United were incensed when Martinez was shown a red card early in the second half. Referee Paul Tierney waved play on when Calvert-Lewin went to the ground, but he was advised to review the incident by VAR.

After watching the incident back on the pitchside monitor, Tierney changed his mind and issued Martinez a red card, deeming him guilty of violent conduct.

United legend Rio Ferdinand was watching the game from home, and he made his feelings about the incident clear. United fans were not happy that Okafor's opener was allowed to stand, with many claiming that Leny Yoro was fouled by Calvert-Lewin in the build-up.

Reacting to a United supporter's post comparing Martinez's red card and Calvert-Lewin's challenge on Yoro before Leeds' opener, Ferdinand has called on PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited) to explain.

Michael Carrick Slams 'Shocking' Martinez Red Card Decision

Man Utd manager Michael Carrick looks on vs Leeds

United boss Carrick was fuming at the decision. He told Sky Sports after the match: "It's not a pull, it's not a tug, it's not aggressive, he touches it and gets sent off. Worst of all is he was sent to overturn it as a clear and obvious error. It's shocking.

"He's off-balance because of that, he half touches the back of his hair which pulls the bobble out and leads it to look like - I don't even know what it looks like. That's two games in a row we've had those decisions go against us, but that one was one of the worst I've seen."

Bruno Fernandes also did not agree with the decision, saying: "I'm not talking about the referee.

"If I talk about the referee I'm going to get in very big trouble because the rules are different for everyone and they play different for everyone. The difference in the yellow cards, you can also see it so it is better that I don't say anything."

Martinez will now face a three-match suspension, although Carrick suggested after the match that United will appeal the decision. The Argentine, as things stand, will miss United's upcoming matches against Chelsea, Brentford, Liverpool.
