Leeds United
Leeds United‘s Mateo Joseph has suffered an injury while training with RCD Mallorca.
The Premier League let him join the La Liga side on a season-long loan deal in August 2025.
Last week, the Leeds United owned player picked up a knee injury while training with the Spanish club.
Five days ago, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that initial test results indicate of a serious setback that forces him to miss the remainder of this season.
Mallorca then confirmed he has suffered ligament damage to his knee, and this blow left him ‘very upset’. Since he’s on loan, the Spanish club discussed the next steps with Daniel Farke’s side.
Leeds United medical staff contacted
RCD Mallorca took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to confirm that Mateo Joseph ‘will undergo surgery on his left knee’ in Barcelona on Tuesday.
Mundo Deportivo relay it and provide a few insights on how the La Liga side came to this conclusion.
As he’s owned by the Whites, a decision has to be made in consultation with the English club’s medical staff.
Mallorca made contact with Leeds United doctors to ‘determine the best course of action’ to treat the 22-year-old’s injury. The two clubs came to an agreement that it’s best for him to go under the knife.
Última Hora also cover the Leeds United man’s surgery in Barcelona on Tuesday and what that means to the Spanish club.
Mallorca are 15th in the table, two points above 18th placed Elche. Their manager, Martín Demichelis, won’t be able to rely upon the 22-year-old for the rest of the season.
The Spaniard will be out of action for long lerm, meaning he can’t extend his loan stay after this season. In short, the ligament damage to his left knee complicates the attacker’s future.
Contract, value and stats
Mateo Joseph has played 1,716 minutes from 30 matches for Mallorca, scoring two goals and contributing four assists.
After this season, he will have two years left on his contract at Elland Road and his value, as per Transfermarkt, is €3.5m.
The attacker will undergo surgery today and then start the long road to recovery. That will rule out a potential move in the summer.
