Hurzeler issues clear message to Boscagli ahead of Tottenham

All the reaction from Brighton’s 2-0 Premier League win at Burnley

Brighton defender Olivier Boscagli impressed in the 2-0 win at Burnley last Saturday.

The French defender has had to be patient for his chances this season after last summer’s free transfer move from PSV. The 28-year-old has made just six starts this term from his nine Premier League appearances.

He has been behind the first choice centre back pairing of Lewis Dunk and Jan Paul van Hecke in the pecking order. He has though performed well when called upon and delivered another classy display at Turf Moor as he stood in for suspended skipper Lewis Dunk.

Albion's captain serves the second of his two match ban at Tottenham this Saturday and Boscagli is now expected to keep his place in the team as Albion travel to Roberto De Zerbi's strugglers.

Boscagli should be frustrated

Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler, speaking after the win at Burnley, said: “Players should be frustrated if they’re not playing. I want them to have expectations to play.

“He knows our skipper is in a great shape. Lewis and JP have a good connection. Oli waited for his chance. He waits for his chance. Very patient.

“Right moment he’s there. He’s helped the team in the past. A lot of good performances when we needed him. Another great performance today and he built a really connection with JP.”

Hurzeler added: “Every player during the season will be important – team togetherness.

“Oli Boscagli is a good role model for that. He will have another chance next week [at Spurs].

“That's a great thing for me as a coach. We are happy to have him. We know his quality. Congrats to him today.”

World Cup for Wieffer?

Dutch full back Mats Wieffer was also on top form as his two goals sealed victory - Brighton’s fifth from their last six Premier League matches.

Hurzeler feels he should be in the Dutch national team at the World Cup this summer.

The Albion boss said: “He has the quality to attack and run a lot at high speed.

"He creates a different dynamic from behind and that’s what we demand from our full-backs.

"He used these moments quite well. He was very efficient. Had a very clever finish and that’s what we like to see. Offensively, it was one of his best games. Defensively, the whole team can definitely improve.

"His position is introverted. He has the freedom to attack the spaces. That’s one of his strengths.

“He’s developed really well as a full-back. Physical in the personal duals. One of the best Dutch players in the world, so hopefully he will have a chance to go [World Cup]. For me, he definitely deserves it.”
