Liverpool could be keeping a close eye on goings-on at Real Madrid after it was reported that Eduardo Camavinga is set to be transfer-listed by the Spanish giant this summer.

The Reds have long been linked with the France international, who would be a versatile addition to the squad due to his proficiency in defense and on the wing as well as in his preferred role as a central midfielder. Madrid is reportedly likely to sign a midfielder this summer, which could see Camavinga shipped out of the club after five years in the Spanish capital.

Diario AS says that Camavinga is having his "worst season in a Madrid shirt" and that he is yet to convince that he has what it takes to be the starting holding midfielder in the team, despite being at the club since 2021.

Paris Saint-Germain is reported to be one of the clubs that is interested in signing Camavinga, but Liverpool has also been linked with him for some time.

The 22-year-old would command a significant transfer fee given his standing in the game, but he would undoubtedly improve Liverpool's options in a number of positions.

Ryan Gravenberch has been used as a holding midfielder since Arne Slot arrived at Liverpool and has performed excellently, but the prospective arrival of Camavinga would allow him to be used further forward, which is how he was used most frequently at Ajax and Bayern Munich.

Liverpool also just generally lacks depth in the holding midfield position, with Wataru Endo having barely been used by Slot before the serious injury he suffered earlier this season.

Andy Robertson playing for Liverpool

Camavinga has experience playing as a left-back for Madrid too, which could be beneficial as the Reds prepare for the departure of Andy Robertson this summer.

Robertson announced his impending departure last week, and said that he was happy that the news was out in the open, so that he could focus on giving his all for the remainder of the season.

"I think I feel better now that it’s out in the open," Robertson said. "The hardest bit [in] the last certainly couple of weeks and months is some people that are close to me in the training ground don’t know and more importantly, the fans.

"The closer it gets, the more and more questions you start to get. I’ve always said that the fans are the most important people at this club and I just think now is the time to tell them what’s going on and that obviously this will be my last year.

"I just think it’s better being out in the open, that now I can fully focus on the team from now until the end of the season.

"I think it’s important that I do that, I’ve always done that. But the time to have the emotional farewell and tell the fans and the people connected to this club what they mean to me, that will come closer to the end.

"I don’t think I’m quite ready for that yet. It’s just to try to get it out there so I can now be open and honest with everyone."
