What defender do Celtic want to sign this summer?
A report from Germanijak reads on the former Nottingham Forest man reads: “It's known that Sergi Dominguez is one of the first exhibits for the summer transfer, the young Spaniard is being watched from many sides, but in his shadow, something is also 'brewing' around Scott McKenna. The Scotsman has had a great season behind him, he also qualified for the World Cup with the national team, he is a true example of a professional, a player in his prime, who holds the locker room.
“And as we learn, there are inquiries and offers for him too and it's not ruled out that he could leave Dinamo in the transfer window. Some English and Scottish clubs are mentioned (say, Celtic), we don't know how serious the story is for now, but we do know that Dinamo are aware that McKenna could receive an offer that will 'tickle' him and which could remove him from Dinamo.
“We wrote that everyone at Dinamo's plan is not to sell key players before August 20th, or a few days longer, until the end of the European qualifiers, but sometimes it's difficult to fully influence such things, because the market dictates the pace. But, that Mario Kovačević's team will need another defender, that's for sure, McKenna's departure would be a tough blow. But one that, we say, they in Maksimir are ready for.”
Does Scott McKenna support Celtic?
Centre-back has been a problem position for Celtic this season with Cameron Carter-Vickers missing much of the campaign. Jahmai Simpson-Pusey’s loan from Man City didn’t work out either as Auston Trusty, Benjamin Arthur and Dane Murray have all stepped in alongside Liam Scales this season.
McKenna has previously discussed his support of Celtic when links emerged in 2024 over a January switch from Nottingham Forest. He said: “My dad was a Celtic season-ticket holder. I went to a few Celtic games round the time when they were doing well in Europe. I remember being there when Alan Thompson scored versus Barcelona. I used to love going to a midweek game at Parkhead under the lights."
