Everton would require some 'serious legal findings' to withdraw from £20m agreement - insider

Everton are locked into an obligation to sign midfielder Merlin Rohl from Freiburg this summer.

The business done last summer at Everton has provided mixed results, with the jury still out on Rohl.

During the draw at the weekend, the German midfielder had to watch from the bench, having played just 141 minutes of Premier League football this year.

There are no wrong answers here! They have all been sensational this season 🔥

But which two are you starting if you're Moyes? 🤷‍♂️

David Moyes has praised Rohl, but the reality is he is struggling to utilise the midfielder, who Everton are set to sign this summer.

Everton locked into Merlin Rohl signing this summer

It must be noted that Rohl has settled in well at Everton, with the German showing himself to be a good character back at Finch Farm.

However, he has failed to make an impact on the starting XI, with one insider expressing there will be no get-out clause to signing him permanently this summer.

“To reiterate: Everton are obligated to sign him as long as they don’t get relegated. There is no “get-out” clause for Everton,” he said on A View From The Bullens Patreon.

“I think you would have to go through some serious legal findings or go through the contract with a toothpick to try and get out of it, if that’s even what they wanted to do. But it is an obligation.

“As long as Everton stay up, they are obligated to pay £20 million for Merlin Rohl, so he is effectively an Everton player now.”

Moyes was so impressed with Rohl following the victory on the road against Aston Villa.

Despite his positive display, that game at Villa Park was the last time Rohl started a game for the Blues in the Premier League.

Everton’s summer business was certainly a mixed bag. Although Rohl’s signing does not look much of a success, the Blues felt they could only land him with the obligation included.

Fans should remember that James Garner did not exactly enjoy an instant impact on Merseyside following his move to the club.

Next season will be a big indicator when it comes to Rohl, with the 23-year-old having had a full pre-season to impress Moyes.
