Offers coming in – Newcastle United already receiving bids for easy summer sale

Newcastle United

Newcastle United goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos has been on loan at Sevilla since last summer.

The Premier League side signed him from Nottingham Forest in July 2024. Eddie Howe only utilised him once last season, causing understandable frustration.

Last week, the Greece international expressed his anger towards Newcastle United for not keeping their word. At least as he saw it.

Vlachodimos’ decision to join the Andalusian club has paid off as it allowed him to enjoy regular minutes. To put it in context, the stopper has already played 28 matches so far.

His La Liga stats this season are as follows:

Appearances: 27

Starts: 27

Total minutes: 2,430

Clean sheets: 4

Goals conceded: 44

Penalties saved: 1/10

Total saves: 77

Saves per game: 2.9

The Newcastle United owned player’s performances have convinced the Spanish club to extend his stay. The latter have no option or obligation to make his stay permanent and need a fresh agreement with the Magpies.

Update on Newcastle United man’s future

On March 16th, Sevilla sporting director Antonio Cordón insisted the stopper wants to extend his stay with them.

Last week, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that the Premier League side want €10m for the Greece international. However, the La Liga side can’t afford to meet their request.

Tuesday’s edition of Diario de Sevilla, a newspaper local to the Spanish club, covers the latest on Odysseas Vlachodimos’ future.

Last month, the Magpies man refused to comment on his future plans after his loan spell.

The latest report mainly focuses on how Cordón’s signings for this season has been a failure. At the weekend, Sevilla sealed a 2-1 league win at home over Atlético Madrid.

Vlachodimos was the only signing to start against Diego Simeone’s side. He wants to stay but that remains a complex operation for Sevilla, also because the Magpies have already started receiving offers.

Diario de Sevilla make no mention of the clubs that have submitted offers or the details of the proposals. Either way, Sevilla would find it difficult to retain him.

Our take: Magpies must sell

Odysseas Vlachodimos’ is unlikely to have a future at Newcastle United, where he has a contract until 2028.

If that were to be the case, Eddie Howe’s side have to sell and not send him on loan again in the summer.

Both the player and the Premier League side are likely to accept one of the offers that’s on the table.
