Roy Keane argues 'both sides' had case during controversial Man Utd vs Leeds incident as he delivers his verdict

Sky Sports pundit Roy Keane reacted immediately to the controversial sending off of Lisandro Martinez in Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Leeds United.

Manchester United faced an uphill battle against Leeds United in the second half at Old Trafford after conceding twice in the first half thanks to Noah Okafor’s brace.

However, the Red Devils’ woes only further intensified after VAR intervened for Lisandro Martinez’s challenge on Leeds and England striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Martinez had been deemed to have pulled Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hair during their clash and referee Paul Tierney would dismiss the United defender from the tie.

Martinez will now be suspended for three Premier League matches after VAR and Paul Tierney sent him marching down the Old Trafford tunnel on Monday evening.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Roy Keane admitted that he would still back the red card decision that was handed out, despite seeing both sides of the argument around it.

“I can see it from both sides and when you class it as violent conduct, it feels really harsh,” he said on Monday Night Football.

“But we’ve seen other players getting sent off. It is harsh, but if that’s the law of the game, then you have to accept it.”

Jamie Carragher was confused by Paul Tierney’s red card verdict on Man Utd star Lisandro Martinez

Speaking on Monday Night Football alongside United legend Keane, former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher was left scratching his head over the red card in the match.

“He’s going for the ball and he’s almost grappling,” he said.

“He’s trying to grab onto something and he’s caught the back of his hair – it could’ve been his hair or anything.

“He’s got him for about half a second. We hear from Howard Webb and he says, ‘What does the game want?’

“I don’t think any football fan, manager or player is thinking, ‘That’s a red card.’

“Everybody is looking at that and thinking, ‘Oh come on, that is not a red card, behave yourself.’”

Following 10-man Man Utd’s defeat to Leeds at Old Trafford, the Red Devils will now travel away for their next Premier League outing against Chelsea on Saturday.
