Liverpool free to sign Spanish star–Midfielder AGREES to leave Barcelona in summer

Midfielder Marc Casadó is reportedly preparing to leave Barcelona this summer, with growing interest from Premier League sides including Chelsea and Liverpool.

According to reports in Spain cited by outlets such as Fichajes, the Spaniard has accepted that his long-term future may lie away from Camp Nou after a frustrating campaign marked by limited opportunities. Despite injuries to key midfielders, Casadó has struggled to secure a consistent role, prompting a shift in mindset from staying and fighting for his place to seeking a new challenge.

Casadó, a product of La Masia and a defensive midfielder known for his work rate and ball-winning ability, has made only sporadic starts this season. He has featured in under 1,300 minutes across all competitions, reinforcing concerns over his development if he remains on the fringes.

Interest from England has intensified in recent weeks. Chelsea are understood to be monitoring the situation closely as they look to add depth behind key midfield options, with the Spaniard viewed as a technically proficient and tactically disciplined option.

LIVERPOOL have also been linked previously, alongside other Premier League clubs, highlighting the growing market for emerging Barcelona talents.

While Barcelona have yet to actively push for a sale, uncertainty over a contract extension and increasing competition in midfield — including the return of younger prospects — has left the door open for a potential exit.

Opinion: Where would Casado develop best?

At Chelsea, his pathway could be clearer in the short term. The club’s ongoing midfield rebuild and need for squad rotation could offer him meaningful minutes, particularly in domestic competitions. However, competition remains intense, and without guaranteed starts, he could face a situation not entirely dissimilar to Barcelona.

LIVERPOOL, by contrast, may offer a more structured developmental environment. Their system traditionally rewards tactically intelligent midfielders, and Casadó’s positional discipline could suit their high-intensity style. Yet breaking into a settled midfield unit at Anfield would be equally challenging.

If Casadó secures regular playing time in England, the Premier League’s pace and physicality could accelerate his growth significantly. If not, the move risks stalling a player whose career now hinges on consistent minutes rather than potential alone
