Kostas Tsimikas informed he is in Liverpool’s plans for next season

Liverpool have reportedly informed Kostas Tsimikas that he is part of their plans for next season, with Andy Robertson leaving at the end of his contract.

With the Reds adding Milos Kerkez to their ranks last summer with a view to taking over from Robertson as the first-choice left-back, it left no room for Tsimikas.

The 29-year-old subsequently joined Roma on loan for the season, and was even linked with a mid-season return when it emerged that Tottenham were close to reaching an agreement for Robertson.

But with the Scot announcing he will leave at the end of the season, Liverpool need a deputy for Kerkez, and Tsimikas has reportedly been told that it will be him.

According to Greek outlet Sport24, Liverpool consider Tsimikas as their second option in the position for 2026/27, negating the need to dip into the transfer market.

The report does caveat that there remains the potential of a bid over the summer that leaves the 29-year-old deciding he does not want to be a bench option at Anfield.

For Liverpool, it is a move that would be cost-efficient, he has experience and he knows the culture of the club, something that the dressing room will need an injection of post-Robertson and Mo Salah.

He is, however, only contracted to 2027, and the club will have to consider whether they would accept a bid if one came in that met their valuation or let him run down his contract.

Tsimikas featured throughout pre-season but was left out of the first three matchday squads this campaign before leaving on loan, a late decision Sport 24 report was down to the final calls between who would depart: Tsimikas or Robertson.

A role as second-choice would not be new for Tsimikas, as he has supported Robertson and now plays a limited role for Roma, who are not pushing to retain his services, amassing only 1,038 minutes so far this season.

In Arne Slot‘s debut campaign, the Greek international managed 1,675 minutes, a tally Robertson only surpassed after his start against Fulham (1,680).
