Troy Deeney names one 'excellent' Man Utd star in BBC Team of the Week despite losing to Leeds

Manchester United suffered defeat to Leeds United at Old Trafford but Troy Deeney still picked out one outstanding performer from Michael Carrick’s side.

The first 45 minutes Manchester United played against Leeds United were easily the worst under Michael Carrick so far this season.

Carrick’s half-time team talk seemed to have an effect, and even though Lisandro Martinez was sent off controversially, the performance after the break was much improved.

Casemiro added to his goal tally with a powerful header, and he came close to an equaliser when his effort was cleared off the line by Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Casemiro named in Team of the Week

Casemiro played the full 90 minutes against Leeds at Old Trafford, and once again, he combined with Bruno Fernandes to find the back of the net.

The Brazilian now has eight Premier League goals this season – his highest goal tally in any season in his career.

Troy Deeney included Casemiro in his latest BBC Team of the Week despite being on the losing side against Leeds.

He wrote: “Even though he was on the losing side, he was excellent against Leeds. I don’t know whether it’s because he is leaving at the end of the season but the pressure seems to be off him.

“Another goal would do him a lot of good. He was Man Utd’s biggest focal point in the attack and had one cleared off the line. He was very, very good.”

The only other player from the match included in the team was Leeds forward Noah Okafor, who scored twice in the opening 30 minutes.

Casemiro’s exit will free up funds to invest in the team, but replacing the experienced Brazilian could prove to be an impossible task for Ineos.

Before he leaves, Casemiro is focused on Champions League qualification, and he tried his best to salvage an important point against Leeds.
