Wolves’ club record signing Fabio Silva’s disappointing spell came to a permanent end back in the summer.

Fabio Silva’s time at Wolves officially came to an end in the summer - five years after he arrived for a club record £35m.

The Portuguese striker was being tipped for big things - but he is very much filed under the headline of flop at Molineux.

The highlight was a Black Country Derby goal - but the truth is that he spent more time away from Molineux than he did at the club.

Loan spells came at a number of clubs and after being linked with a number of moves away from Wolves - Borussia Dortmund paid out an initial £19.5m for him last summer.

But his time in Germany has not gone as he would have hoped for. He has netted just once in 23 appearances, with only six of those outings coming as a starter.

However despite that form, he has been backed by Dortmund boss Niko Kovac.

He explained that Silva was low on confidence after his arrival from Wolves in the summer - but he insists he has started to make great progress in Germany.

He said: “He's made a good start here at BVB with a win. We're in regular contact. We're trying to find very good solutions, and he's working hard on it,.

“Of course, he hasn’t scored that many goals yet, but that’s due to the number of minutes he’s played. The more minutes he gets, the more chances he has to score.

"He’s working his way up. This shows once again that players need time.

“For the past three or four weeks, I’ve seen a Fábio in training who has really stepped up his game.

"At the beginning, he lagged behind in terms of confidence and physicality – things you need in a league like this. He used to only come on for short appearances.

“But now he’s getting more and more playing time because I see that he’s made great progress. The impact he’s had has been really good.”
