West Ham United's Sarah Brasero was named among the substitutes but did not feature as England's Under 23s secured their place in the Women's Under 23 European Competition final with a narrow 1-0 victory over the Netherlands on Monday afternoon.
The Young Lionesses controlled proceedings at the Pinatar Arena in Murcia and could easily have been ahead before the break. Mia Enderby, Eleanor Klinger and Lenna Gunning-Williams all struck the woodwork during a dominant first half, while Isobel Goodwin also missed a clear opportunity.
However, Goodwin quickly made up for that miss just moments after the restart, firing home her fourth goal at Under 23 level with a composed finish from inside the box.
Despite England’s control, the Netherlands came close to forcing extra time late on, but Khiara Keating produced an excellent save to keep out Sophie van Vugt in stoppage time.
England will now return to the Pinatar Arena for the final, scheduled for 12pm BST on Friday 17 April, where Lydia Bedford’s side will meet either Sweden or Norway, who face off in the other semi-final later on Monday.
