'One of the best' - Brighton target top Bundesliga goalkeeper amid Bart Verbruggen claim

All the latest transfer news and gossip for Brighton and Hove Albion and across the Premier League

Brighton will have some big decisions to make in their goalkeeping department this summer.

Dutch international Bart Verbruggen is the current No 1 and has impressed for Fabian Hurzeler's team this term.

The 23-year-old former Anderlecht man has started all 32 Premier League matches this campaign and has been key in Albion's late push for Europe.

Verbruggen is contracted until June 2028 but has been linked with a summer move away from the Amex with Bayern Munich and Chelsea, among those linked.

The Albion stopper is also expected to feature for the Netherlands this summer at the World Cup, placing him further in the shop window.

If Brighton do decide sell this summer, they will do so from a position of strength.

Jason Steele - recently called up to Thomas Tuchel's latest England squad - is a reliable and experienced No 2, while the excellent Carl Rushworth is currently on loan and impressing with Championship leaders Coventry.

Brighton also have England under-21 international James Beadle on loan at Birmingham.

You could make a strong case for all three of them being Albion's Premier League No 1 next season, if Verbruggen moves on - which is not a certainty.

Despite Albion's strong depth in the goalkeeping department, they are said to be tracking SC Freiburg's Noah Atubolu.

The 23-year-old has progressed though the ranks at the Bundesliga club and the 6ft 3in stopper has also represented Germany from the under-17s through to the under-21s.

German transfer expert Florian Plettenberg posted: "EXCL | Noah #Atubolu is on Brighton’s shortlist for next season - not their top option, but still quite high on the list. Brighton are preparing for a potential departure of Bart Verbruggen.

"23 y/o Atubolu is expected to leave SC Freiburg this summer, or at the latest in 2027 on a free transfer. One of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga this season."

Verbruggen and Brighton are next in action this Saturday as they take on Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
