Sheffield United and Burnley mooted as potential destinations for Middlesbrough man - report

Middlesbrough’s Dael Fry has been linked with a clutch of clubs including Sheffield United

Sheffield United have been mooted as one of the potential summer destinations for Middlesbrough stalwart Dael Fry.

Not since his loan spell at Rotherham United nearly a decade ago has Fry worn another club’s colours, with his Middlesbrough appearance tally now sitting at 289.

However, with less than a month remaining until the end of the regular Championship season, the defender has not penned a new deal at the Riverside.

As it stands, he will be available as a free agent in the summer, and will be an attractive prospect as an unattached player.

Dael Fry latest

According to SportsBoom, Sheffield United could be in the market for Fry if he does not sign a new deal at Middlesbrough.

Charlton Athletic have also been thrown in the mix, as have Premier League strugglers Burnley. It has also been suggested he could be a target for Championship-bound Lincoln City, who recently clinched promotion from League One.

Fry boasts a wealth of experience at Championship level and would arguably be a shrewd addition for most of the division’s clubs.

However, the report has suggested he would jump at the chance to represent Middlesbrough in the Premier League if he was offered a new contract.

It now remains to be seen whether his lengthy association with his boyhood club will continue, or whether he wil be seeking pastures new for the first time.

Contract situation

Regarding Fry and goalkeeper Sol Brynn, he said: “In the background, those conversations will be going on already, which I’m aware of. We know where everyone is at, contract wise.

"Soon enough, if people continue to keep doing what they’re doing, then I think there’ll be conversations happening.

"But also, at the moment, we want full focus on what’s important and that’s the here and the now and the football. But obviously the boys’ futures are important as well. That will all be taken care of.”

Brynn signed a new deal in December, committing to Middlesbrough until 2030, but there has been no such agreement reached with Fry.
