Manchester United have been handed a huge update in their search for a new manager.

The Red Devils have been on the lookout for a new boss since sacking Ruben Amorim in January. Michael Carrick has taken the reins as an interim boss, but United have yet to announce if he will move into the role full-time.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have been linked with Andoni Iraola in their search for a new manager. And they have been handed a boost in their pursuit on Tuesday (August 14) with the Spaniard set to leave Bournemouth at the end of the season.

Iraola's contract runs until the end of the season, and, according to The Athletic, he will leave the Vitality Stadium when that expires in the summer.

He last signed an extension in the summer of 2024, having joined Bournemouth 12 months earlier on an initial two-year deal.

The report adds that the Cherries did everything they could to try and keep him in the hot seat.

However, they are said to respect his decision and maintain a strong relationship - the squad have also been informed as his decision.

United have been thrown around as a potential destination - while he was sounded out by Tottenham Hotspur last March. Crystal Palace are also thought to be interested in his services.

La Liga side Athletic Club could also be a destination, with Ernesto Valverde announcing his upcoming exit last month.

Iraola, who is from the Basque Country, spent 12 years playing for the team as a player and has a strong connection with the Basque club.

Director of football Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada have been content to move slowly in making the decision, with United sat third in the Premier League and on course to qualify for the Champions League.
