Bombshell managerial departure confirmed ahead of Newcastle United v AFC Bournemouth

Big managerial news has emerged ahead of Newcastle United v AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday.

While the Cherries are yet to provide official confirmation, widespread reports have revealed that manager Andoni Iraola has chosen to leave the club at the end of the campaign after failing to agree a new contract.

Iraola, whose contract expires this summer, will remain in charge for the remaining six games before departing. It’s understood he informed his players of the decision on Tuesday afternoon.

And the 43-year-old won’t be short of offers following a successful two years at the Vitality Stadium.

Bournemouth finished ninth in the Premier League table last season on a club-record 56 points. Despite losing the likes of Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez, Illia Zabarnyi, Dango Ouattara and Antoine Semenyo since, the Cherries could better last season’s finish.

The South Coast outfit sit 11th in the table, just two points below a Conference League spot. Securing a top seven would see them qualify for Europe for the first time in their history.

Eddie Howe under pressure at Newcastle United

La Liga side Athletic Club are interested in bringing Iraola back to the Basque Country with Ernesto Valverde set to depart at the end of the season. He previously spent 12 years in Bilbao as a player, appearing in more than 500 games.

Following the news of his Bournemouth exit, Iraola has emerged as some bookies’ favourite to next manage Newcastle amid speculation surrounding Eddie Howe's future.
