Newcastle United 'intensify' interest in £43.5m winger aiming to join Bruno Guimaraes in Brazil …

The latest transfer talk from Newcastle United as the Magpies are linked with a Brazilian winger.

Newcastle United are reportedly one of several clubs showing an interest in Porto winger William Gomes after his form with the Portuguese giants sparked talk of a possible call-up to the Brazil squad.

The 20-year-old initially joined Porto from Sao Paulo in a £7m move in January 2025 and has gone on to score 14 goals and provide two assists in 51 appearances in all competitions during his time at the Estádio do Dragão. However, it is his form during the current campaign that has provoked talk of joining Bruno Guimaraes in the Brazil squad after the lively winger netted 13 of his Porto goals in 40 appearances across the league, Europa League, Portuguese Cup and Allianz Cup.

Gomes also caught the eye in the first leg of Porto’s Europa League quarter-final tie against Elliot Anderson’s Nottingham Forest as found the net for his side in a 1-1 draw on their home patch and will now hope to impress when the two sides meet in the second leg at the City Ground on Thursday night.

Speaking last month about a potential maiden call-up to the Brazil squad, Gomes told Globoesporte: “We have to believe and visualise good things. We know how difficult it is, because Brazil has many quality players, but it’s a dream I have. I’ve already had the opportunity to represent the youth national teams, so I know what a great privilege that is. One of my goals is to reach the senior national team. I can see myself doing that, so I’m preparing every day. I don’t know when it will happen, whether in this cycle or another, but I’ll keep working so that when the opportunity comes, I’m ready.”

However, it is talk of Gomes’ future at club level, rather than international level, that has made headlines in Spain with Diario AS claiming Newcastle are ready to ‘intensify’ their interest in the winger head of the summer - but also claim there are ‘plenty of suitors’. An asking price of over €50 million is suggested and the report also states a decision over his future and a possible move away from Porto will be made after the World Cup finals in North America this summer.

The report comes after current Magpies winger Anthony Gordon was said to be a ‘top target’ for Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich. Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg first reported Gordon, who has also been linked with moves to Arsenal and Liverpool, had been made aware of the interest on Monday as stated ‘concrete talks’ had taken place. That was followed by a further update on Tuesday as he posted on X: “Anthony Gordon is currently FC Bayern’s top target for the left wing as reported last night. The current estimated transfer fee for a summer move is €60-70 million. Bayern are ready to invest that amount if Gordon agrees. It now largely depends on Gordon, while Bayern, led by Eberl/Freund, are keeping alternative options open.”
