He was undoubtedly the surprise package of West Ham United’s whole season, let alone their January transfer window. Axel Disasi only joined the Hammers late on deadline day after dragging his feet hoping that another suitor would emerge from Serie A, and was reported to be short on fitness and unenthusiastic about joining a relegation fight mid season.
How wrong we were. Disasi has become the ‘Chelsea colossus‘ around which West Ham’s recovery of form has been built. Inspiring his fellow centre back Dinos Mavropanos to take a step up in his own performance, West Ham’s defence has looked solid and clean sheets – which were in such short supply – have been chalked up as the Irons have amassed enough points to climb out of the relegation zone for the first time since November.

Disasi sadly has no option to buy on his loan deal: Something West Ham may well come to regret as news breaks today that other suitors are desperate to sign him at the end of this West Ham loan. Footballfancast.com provides the report suggesting another of Disasi’s former loan clubs want to sign him:

West Ham would not be able to match the price Chelsea paid for Disasi – £38.5 million – and Aston Villa would aim to lure the French International with the promise of Champions League football should they qualify.
Which would be an absolute disaster for the Hammers should Disasi help them secure Premier League football next season. To have to let Disasi go to a competitor after helping him resuscitate his career would be a bitter pill to swallow.
