The latest transfer talk from Sunderland as a major update is delivered on the future of a reported transfer target.
Sunderland have been handed a boost after reported transfer target Marcos Senesi rejected interest from major clubs in Spain and Italy and signalled his intent to remain in the Premier League.
A recent report from teamTALK has claimed the Black Cats are one of several Premier League clubs to show an interest in the three-times capped Argentina international as he approaches the final months of his current deal at the Vitality Stadium with Bournemouth. Senesi joined the Cherries in a reported £12m deal during the summer of 2022 and has gone on to make over a century of appearances during that time. His performances throughout the last 12 months have caught the eye of a whole host of clubs from the Premier League and beyond and the likes of Barcelona and Juventus have reportedly signalled their interest in handing the defender an opportunity to move to one of European football’s elite clubs
Speaking about Senesi’s future and the possibility of a new contract being agreed earlier this year, Cherries head coach Andoni Iraola said: “Yes, I think the situation is still open. I think it’s not easy. We have references from all the seasons, and sometimes they decide to re-sign, sometimes not. But I don’t think Marcos has taken any decision.”
The defender is yet to comment on what could lie ahead as he enters the final months of his current deal but journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed Senesi wants to stay in the Premier League despite receiving interest from Italy and Spain. That will have handed a boost to Sunderland, Newcastle, Everton and Aston Villa after they were all suggested as possible suitors for the centre-back in recent months.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the Italian journalist said: "Despite proposals from Italy, for example Juventus were interested, and some calls from Spain, he wants to stay in the Premier League. So Senesi will leave Bournemouth in the summer transfer window as a free agent, he's not going to sign a new deal at Bournemouth and he's ready to make his move in the summer transfer window. And now his agents are talking to Premier League clubs."
