Hugo Ekitike lies on the ground, surrounded by Liverpool and PSG players
Hugo Ekitike appeared to suffer a serious injury in Liverpool's Champions League tie against PSG
Hugo Ekitike was replaced in Liverpool's Champions League tie against Paris Saint-Germain with what appeared to be a serious injury.
The incident occurred on the half-hour mark, with Ekitike made move towards the ball, and with no around him, dropped to the turf.
Ekitike was immediately surrounded by both sets of players, with many of the PSG players among his international colleagues.
He was soon on a stretcher, with Mohamed Salah introduced off the bench in the 32nd minute. The former PSG forward was warmly applauded as he made his off the field, and appeared in real discomfort.
While the striker's injury will be of concern to Slot and for Liverpool's chances in the second leg, a serious injury would also put Ekitike's chances of participating in the World Cup.
His injury comes just as Alexander Isak made his first start in over four months, with the Swede a shock selection up front against PSG.
The plan to pair him with Ekitike was quicky shelved by Slot, who turned to Salah off the bench when Liverpool's no.22 could no longer continue.
Playing in perhaps his final ever Champions League game for Liverpool, Salah created a chance within minutes of his introduction.
His cross was nearly steered in at the back post by Milos Kerkez, before Marquinhos slid in to block Virgil van Dijk's goal-bound effort.
Ekitike was not the only substitution in the first half, with PSG left-back Nuno Mendes replaced before half-time by Lucas Hernandez.
