Hammers goal scorers in Wolves rout recognised by Premier League

FOR A SIDE in the bottom three – at the time that the Wolves game kicked off – to have not one, but two players recognised by the Premier League for their performances at the weekend is quite something.

The extent to which West Ham dominated large parts of the second half and the thrilling manner in which Wolves were put to the sword obviously impressed the wider football world, rather than just West Ham fans.

Both of the pair who netted twice for West Ham have been nominated for ‘Premier League player of Match Week 32′.

Dinos Mavropanos and Taty Castellanos are both up for the award and there’s a link here for West Ham fans to show the love and vote for the Irons’ goal scoring heroes from Friday night.

Rare indeed for two West Ham stars to feature together in the awful season that we’ve endured: The pair are featured alongside Alex Scott, Mats Wiefer, Rayan Cherki, Noah Okafor, Jean Phillips Mateta and Igor Thiago.

Finally, it seems, the Hammers’ heroes are getting noticed: Says the PL official notification:

Castellanos produced the fastest quickfire double of the Premier League season to set West Ham United up for their biggest win since April 2023 as they thumped fellow strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Hammers were 1-0 ahead when Castellanos struck his first after 66 minutes, a clinical finish from Pablo’s brilliant flicked assist. His second, a shot that deflected in off Andre, came just two minutes later and helped take the contest away from Wolves.”

Whilst Mavropanos’ presence in the list of nominees was explained to a wider audience thus:

West Ham secured a vital win at home and their performance owed much to Greece international Mavropanos, who produced a performance full of heart and quality at both ends of the pitch.

Mavropanos heads in that crucial first goal

Mavropanos helped ease the Hammers’ nerves with a towering header to put them ahead just before half-time before adding his second – and West Ham’s fourth – with a stunning volley seven minutes from time to complete his first domestic brace.
