Benjamin Sesko should study Dominic Calvert-Lewin's performance against Man Utd

Benjamin Sesko would do well to take a leaf out of Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s book and add more aggression to his game.

Monday night saw Manchester United lose 2-1 against Leeds in the Premier League, meaning Michael Carrick’s side have won just one of their previous four games.

Benjamin Sesko started the game up front but was unable to have a big impact on the game, despite playing the entire match.

United’s only goal was scored by Casemiro, but it wasn’t enough to inspire a comeback as Carrick endured his first home defeat as interim head coach.

Benjamin Sesko should take inspiration from Dominic Calvert-Lewin

It was a hard watch seeing Leeds pull off their first league victory at Old Trafford since 1981.

Lisandro Martinez’s controversial red card dominated the headlines, but the Argentina international had a night to forget in the lead-up to his questionable dismissal.

Leeds striker Calvert-Lewin gave Sesko a lesson on Monday night on how to lead the line by terrorising United’s back four, especially Leny Yoro and Martinez.

The Everton international excelled at the dark arts of being a traditional number 9. There was nothing pretty about it, but he made his presence felt and had an impact on the game.

Carrick rightly argued that Calvert-Lewin fouled Yoro in the lead-up to Leeds’ opening goal, but he got away with it. The former Everton striker won fewer aerial duels (4) than Sesko (5) throughout the match, but it was the manner in which he contested for the ball and gave United’s defenders little time on the ball.

Calvert-Lewin also made a mountain out of a molehill when Martinez slightly tugged his hair in the second half, resulting in the United centre-back receiving a straight red card.

On the other hand, Sesko has the height and stature, but he played “smaller” than his frame suggests.

Sesko has a massive vertical leap, but the Slovenian is guilty of waiting for the ball to come to him. There was a telling difference at the other end of the pitch as Calvert-Lewin showed extra bravery and fight to win balls in the air, using his body as a shield.

At the age of 22, Sesko has plenty of time to develop his game, but he would benefit massively by adding more aggression to his game.

With six games remaining, where do you now think Man Utd will finish?

Goals in the Premier League this season: Benjamin Sesko vs Dominic Calvert-Lewin

United were linked with Calvert-Lewin before he signed for Leeds as a free agent last summer.

The Red Devils opted to sign a younger striker, but both players have a similar record for goals in the Premier League.

Calvert-Lewin has 10 goals in 29 matches, while Sesko has nine in 27.

Hopefully, a strong end to the season from United will see Sesko reach double figures for league goals.
