A disjointed defence of their Premier League title and impending exit of two club legends means Liverpool will likely be in for yet another huge summer. The reigning league champions have disappointed for much of the 2025/26 campaign with just a month left before fans will move quick to close the chapter on this season.

The farewells of Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson will be a tough pill to swallow for supporters who've watched the modern-day icons win it all in their nine years at Anfield. However, as is the case with football, the sport moves on and quick.

Plans will surely be in place to bolster Arne Slot's squad for next season - that is if he remains in his role - with glaring holes in the makeup of his team hampering much of the campaign.

Joelinton's transfer impact on Reds

Liverpool's decision not to replace Luis Diaz last summer and the impending exit of Mohamed Salah means signing wingers this summer is of utmost importance. One winger that has been linked with a move to Anfield is Hoffenheim starlet Bazoumana Toure.

According to Sky Sports Germany, the 20-year-old is a potential target thanks to his impressive debut campaign in the Bundesliga with three goals and 11 assists to his name in 27 games across all competitions.

With Toure under contract at Hoffenheim until 2029, the club are in a strong negotiating position and are reportedly set to make the Ivory Coast international their most expensive sale ever. That honour is currently held by Joelinton, who was sold for £40million by the Bundesliga side when signing for Newcastle in 2019.

Because of the Brazilian's hefty price tag, Hoffenheim have raised the bar on their demands when negotiating with Premier League clubs. It means Liverpool will have to pay more than the £40m Newcastle did for Joelinton to sign Toure.

Discussing his future, Hoffenheim sporting director Andreas Schicker said: "Bazou has developed very well. We brought him in from Sweden a year and a half ago.

"You can see week after week what qualities he brings. With him, it's like this: if there's interest – which you can tell because he delivers week after week – then it has to be in a league that Hoffenheim hasn't seen before."

Possible repeat of Wirtz heist

Liverpool's signing of Florian Wirtz last season was special for various reasons. The German became the club's record signing at £116m - including add-ons - and marked the beginning of the next generation.

His arrival also sparked surprise due to the fact that he rejected Bayern Munich in order to push through a move to Liverpool. Such a situation could occur once again this summer in the case of Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck.

The Germany defender signed a contract extension until until 2031 but according to Sky Sports Germany, the contract contains a release clause where specific teams could sign him this summer for a fee between £43.5m-£52.2m (€50m-60m).

It is claimed that while Real Madrid are one of those clubs, Bayern Munich are not and should they want to sign him in 2027, Dortmund will still be in control. However, BILD have indicated that Liverpool are likely to be among the clubs included.
