'Obviously': £11m Leeds United player makes it clear he wants permanent exit this summer

Jack Harrison has said exactly what Leeds United supporters expected, and it leaves the club with a decision to make this summer. The winger remains on loan at Fiorentina.

Leeds United are heading towards a familiar situation this summer, with a player on loan abroad beginning to shape his own exit.

Harrison is currently with Fiorentina, but with his contract at Elland Road running until 2028, the club still control what happens next. The issue now is whether they act before his value drops any further.

From Leeds regular to uncertain role, Harrison’s Elland Road spell

Harrison’s Leeds career has been long and at times important, but it has never been entirely settled.

How much would you accept for Jack Harrison? 💵

He's doing well in Italy.

He arrived on three initial loan spells before the club committed £11m to sign him permanently from Man City in 2021. That deal was meant to secure a dependable Premier League winger.

In January 2023, he came close to joining Leicester City before instead signing a new long-term contract. That decision quickly lost relevance as Leeds were relegated later that year.

Harrison was one of eight players to activate the relegation loan clause inserted into contracts by Victor Orta. He spent the next two seasons at Everton before returning under Daniel Farke following promotion.

That return did not last. A poor run of form, including a dismal showing at left-back against Nottingham Forest, saw him fall out of favour again. The move to Fiorentina followed soon after.

Fiorentina spell has not raised his value

If Harrison hoped to rebuild his value in Italy, the numbers suggest that has not happened. He has made around 10 Serie A appearances, with only six starts. There are no goals and just a handful of assists.

There was a positive moment at the weekend. Harrison provided the assist for Fiorentina’s winner against Lazio in a 1-0 victory. It was his most telling contribution so far.

But one assist does not change the wider picture. He has not nailed down a consistent place, and his overall output remains modest. Harrison’s future, like much of his career, remains largely unsettled.

Harrison’s message is clear, he wants Fiorentina move

Harrison has now begun to shape the conversation around his future: “I am very happy in Florence, the city is incredible and so is the club,” he told Italian outlet Firenze Viola.

“As for the future, any player would obviously be happy to play here. We will see what happens.” He stopped short of demanding a move, but the tone is obvious. He is comfortable, settled, and open to staying.

Leeds have seen this before. When a player begins talking like that publicly, the direction of travel is rarely reversed. Harrison wants to join Fiorentina permanently, and Leeds aren’t likely to stand in his way.

Are we safe? Can we stop worrying now? 👊

Why Leeds should now sell Harrison, before it is too late

This is where the decision becomes straightforward. Leeds paid £11m to sign Harrison permanently in 2021. They later handed him a contract that now runs until 2028. On paper, that gives them control.

In reality, the market is already set. Fiorentina’s option is believed to sit around €10m, which reflects his current level. That leaves Leeds looking at a fee in the same range, or slightly below, what they paid.

Given his recent trajectory, there is little evidence that number will increase. Holding on carries risk. His role at Elland Road is no longer secure, and another inconsistent spell would only push his value down.

Harrison has made his position clear. Leeds still hold the leverage, but the smart move now is to act on it.
