Summer deal for Sunderland player to be expensive – Big plan may be ditched

Brian Brobbey

Sunderland‘s Brian Brobbey has enjoyed a good run so far in his debut season in the Premier League.

The Netherlands international arrived at the Stadium of Light from Ajax for €20m in September and took time to adjust.

After overcoming initial difficulties, the striker started to impress for Sunderland, and this allowed him to return to the national team in March. He scored six goals and contributed one assist for the Black Cats so far.

His Premier League stats this season are as follows:

Appearances: 25

Starts: 16

Total minutes: 1,470

Minutes per game: 59

Goals: 6

Assists: 1

Expected Goals: 4.49

Expected Assists: 0.48

Big chances created: 2

Big chances missed: 9

Last month, the 24-year-old explained working with a Rotterdam-based specialist Patrick Woerst has helped him improve his game. This didn’t go unnoticed as the latest claims from the UK mention Bayern Munich’s strong interest in him.

Bayern’s stance on Sunderland player

TZ in Germany relay claims made in England of the Bundesliga winners’ interest and then provide their own take.

Harry Kane is the first-choice striker for Vincent Kompany, with Nicolas Jackson as his backup. The latter is on loan from Chelsea and is likely to return to his parent club after this season.

Therefore, Bayern Munich have to find a new striker in the summer and Brian Brobbey could be an option.

It seems the Bavarian club are yet to make a decision on who could replace Jackson.

TZ state Bayern Munich must first carefully evaluate whether the 24-year-old is the best option as Kane’s backup. Even if he is, the finances needed to secure his services could be a concern for the German club.

The Dutchman’s current value is €40m plus he has a long contract with Sunderland, which puts Régis Le Bris’ side in a comfortable position to demand a higher fee.

These factors make the frontman an ‘expensive transfer target’ for Bayern Munich. This indicates Kompany’s aren’t willing to spend a lot on a back up striker.

Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon is also on their agenda, and he can operate up front and on the wings. He may be a better option than the Sunderland man for Bayern Munich.

Contract, value and agent info

Brian Brobbey has a contract until 2029, and Transfermarkt now value him at €25m. It won’t be surprising if the Black Cats were to offer him an extension in the coming weeks.

Agency Sport Cover, headed by agent Meïssa N’diaye, are representing the Sunderland star.
