49ers now considering formal approach to sign £25m attacker after dispatching Leeds officials

Leeds United are now considering a formal approach to sign Leo Scienza after completing in-person checks on the Southampton star.

Leeds complete scouting checks on Scienza

Leeds' shock 2-1 victory over Manchester United has handed them some much-needed breathing room away from the relegation zone. Now, with six games left to play, the Whites sit six points clear of the bottom three with an FA Cup semi-final to look forward to. Daniel Farke's men are in dreamland.

What that victory should have also done is accelerate any transfer plans. The 49ers should be feeling fairly confident that they'll be watching a Premier League side next season and can use that to their advantage in any negotiations.

Just who arrives is now the big question. Recent reports have even name-dropped players such as James Trafford and there's no doubt that he would be an excellent signing.

The same can be said for Zan Vipotnik, who has stolen the show in the Championship this season. It would be the ultimate move from those at Elland Road if they swept up the second tier's best talents after maintaining their Premier League place, especially if it saw a talent like Scienza arrive.

The Whites are in the race for an "amazing" centre-forward.

Reports claimed last week that the 49ers dispatched Leeds officials to complete in-person checks on the Southampton winger and headlines from Brazil have since gone one step further.

Leeds considering formal approach for Scienza

Reports from his home country, as relayed by Sport Witness, have claimed that Leeds are now considering a formal approach to sign Scienza after the 49ers completed in-person checks on the winger.

At 27 years old, the Brazilian is at the peak of his powers and proving exactly why Premier League clubs are chasing his signature with every week.

With a release clause worth just £25m, signing Scienza wouldn't exactly break the bank for Leeds either, all whilst potentially becoming one of the best additions that the 49ers have made.

His ability to play in the No.10 role means that Farke will have the perfect role available for the South American, rather than switching back to a back four to welcome him into the side. It is simply a deal which suits all parties, especially if Southampton fail to earn promotion.

Farke heaps praise on "fantastic" Leeds

Of course, Farke already has plenty of reason to celebrate after moving six points clear of the dropzone. But the manner in which Leeds secured victory and where they earned all three points will have added the cherry on top.

"Tired. Relieved. Proud of the boys. Fantastic performance. We are in the crunch time of the season and it's important to keep your nerves and stick to your plan. I think the first half was fantastic, we should've been higher up than 2-0, we missed many, many chances." - Farke on the win at Old Trafford

At the first time of asking since promotion, Leeds are closer than ever to survival and look likely to reap all the rewards in the transfer window this summer.
