Keane Lewis Potter has opened up on how his Premier League move to Brentford came about, as he decided to call time on his career at hometown club Hull City.

Lewis-Potter was a shining light at City having come through the club's academy, and spearheaded their return to the Championship as League One title-winners under Grant McCann in May 2021.

After months of trying to get a deal done, Brentford eventually convinced City and new owner Acun Ilicali to do a £20m deal, and he left the club's pre-season training camp in Turkey in the summer of 2022 to join the Bees and fulfil his dream of playing in the top-flight.

At the age of just 21, moving from Hull to London was a huge one for Lewis-Potter, who was rewarded with a six-year contract at the Gtech Community Stadium.

“I think when they (Brentford) came knocking, it was a moment I couldn’t turn down,” he explained. “Playing in the Premier League, I’ve dreamt of that my whole life.

“When it happened, I was actually with Hull in Türkiye at the time in pre-season. We’d played a game that night – a friendly against Fenerbahçe for Hull – and as we got back to the hotel, it must’ve been 1am or 2am and that’s when the owners said they’d accepted a bid.

“The next morning, I had to get a flight at 6am – I had maybe three or four hours of sleep – straight to London to do my medical. It was crazy. It all happened so quick.”

Since leaving City for West London, Lewis-Potter has notched a century of appearances in the Premier League, playing regularly under Thomas Frank, and this season, ex-City midfielder Keith Andrews with his third consecutive 90-minute display coming in the 2-2 at home to Everton on Saturday.

“What we’ve built as a squad has been unbelievable," the 25-year-old from East Yorkshire continued. "A few games ago, I actually reached 100 in the Premier League, which sounds crazy saying it out loud. You don’t even feel like you’ve played that many. It goes so quick. I think I’m reaching close to the amount of games I played for Hull, for Brentford, which in my head is surreal.”
