After sending Liverpool out of the Champions League, PSG star Ousmane Dembele has given his assessment of a tricky night at Anfield.
The Ballon d’Or winner showed why he is one of the world’s best, scoring a brace to earn the Player of the Match award and kill Liverpool’s Champions League dream. He didn’t have too many opportunities, but he was clinical.
Dembele delivered a joyous post-match interview in which he gave credit to the home side, who didn’t deserve to come away 2-0 losers on the night.

Ousmane Dembele says Liverpool made life very difficult for PSG
Liverpool fans clung onto hope of a comeback against PSG, and the atmosphere created at Anfield was fit for the purpose of inspiring a victory.
From the very first whistle, the stadium was a cauldron of passion and emotion, with the home support doing everything they could to spur on Arne Slot’s side.
It did not reflect in the result, but Dembele was nonetheless impressed with the efforts.
He told CBS after the game: “So, like I said, the first match and the second match always differently in a stadium like that, it’s always difficult. We came here to take the win, that was our mentality, and the most important thing is we got through.

“It’s a stadium that is a difficult stadium and a difficult team. They made us work for it. But we’re happy that we were able to take this matchup.”
Dembele and his teammates knew the challenge that faced them coming to Anfield. They had to do the same thing last season. It’s a small positive for Liverpool to take, that they didn’t roll over for the European champions.
Should VAR be scrapped in all competitions, or are the officials just using it incorrectly? ❌

That’s clear to see in the stats. Liverpool won the xG battle 1.94 to 1.25, had 21 shots to PSG’s 12, and were on top for much of this contest.
There was an energy to the pressing that we haven’t seen much of this season, and it should be used as a blueprint for the six crucial games left to play. If Liverpool can make it difficult for this opposition, as Dembele admitted, they can do it to anyone.
