Liverpool are weighing up a move for RB Leipzig star David Raum to replace the departing Andy Robertson. It was announced last week that Roberton, 32, will leave Liverpool when his contract expires in June.
Despite the Scottish left-back seeing less playing time this season, his departure along with that of Mo Salah will subtract a wealth of experience from the Anfield dressing room. But German defender Raum has emerged as a serious option to replace him.
That's according to talkSPORT, who report that Liverpool have been impressed by the 27-year-old during their scouting missions in the Bundesliga. The Reds have been watching Leipzig matches in order to keep tabs on £87million-rated target Yan Diomande.
But their captain, Raum, has also caught the eye at Anfield. The Germany international's attacking qualities and leadership traits could make him an ideal successor to Robertson and help Milos Kerkez, Liverpool's first-choice left-back, continue to develop.
Raum could be a more affordable option compared to other targets such as Fulham's Antonee Robinson, as he only has a year left on his contract with Leipzig. Signed from Hoffenheim in 2022, he helped the Bundesliga club win their first major trophy, the DFB Pokal, in his first season and was appointed club captain at the start of this term.
A regular for Germany, he's set to go to the World Cup this summer. So will Robertson, who's already closing in on his next move.
The Liverpool legend, who's won nine trophies is as many years at Anfield, is in advanced talks to join Tottenham. Spurs were after him in January but Liverpool weren't in a position to let him go.

It remains to be seen, however, if Tottenham's potential relegation to the Championship would stop him joining them. Robertson is expected to have other suitors, with a move to boyhood club Celtic also rumoured.
In 2020, the former Celtic academy star revealed on That Peter Crouch podcast: "If you asked me now what I'd want to do, I'd love to retire at Liverpool of course, but you know how hard it is to play at the highest of levels until you're 35-36.
"I'd love to pull on the Celtic top and walk out at Parkhead. Do I want to go back at one point to even just live? Yeah, maybe."
