At the moment, Everton are in eighth and stand a brilliant chance of playing in a European competition next term.

Even Champions League football is not out of the question yet, and a big win over Liverpool this weekend would allow Evertonians to dream.

Everton have some priority positions this summer, including right-back, centre-back and a forward.

But a midfielder is seemingly on the cards too.

And Shea Charles is on Everton’s radar, and the star shone last night in Southampton’s win over Blackburn Rovers.

Last night, they beat Blackburn to make it a whopping 18 games unbeaten, and their push for promotion is looking strong.

Against Blackburn, Charles was back starting again, after coming off the bench in their last game against Derby.

And it was a superb display from the Northern Ireland international.

As per Sofascore, Charles completed 58/67 (87%) passes in the game and was heavily involved, having 84 touches – only two players had more.

He made five defensive contributions, and impressively won 8/9 duels – the most of any Saints player.

He was pivotal in Southampton’s second goal, bursting past his full back before firing a low cross into the box, with the ball rebounding into the path of Ryan Manning to score.

Local outlet the Daily Echo was left very impressed by Charles’ contributions. In their player ratings piece, they gave him 8/10, and said: “A real showcase of how much he has improved in recent weeks, especially when driving forward with the ball.

“Drew two yellow cards in the first 10 minutes. Won all but one of his duels. Was subbed late on when he ran out of energy.”

Charles could be an exciting addition for Everton

You need only type in Charles’ name on X to get a sense of what Southampton fans made of his performance against Blackburn.

And by many accounts, this is a player who has really impressed for a while now at St. Mary’s Stadium.

Everton’s last signing from Southampton, Tyler Dibling, hasn’t worked out yet. But Charles is definitely someone the Toffees ought to be keeping a close eye on ahead of the summer.

If anyone leaves, he would potentially be a great addition as someone who provides both technicality and physicality.

The fact he was developed in the Manchester City academy and has been moulded in the Championship really does make him a fantastic prospect.
