Former Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey insists Eddie Howe remains the best choice to continue as the club's head coach.
Shelvey spent seven years as a player at Newcastle and played under Howe at St James' Park in the final year of his time on Tyneside before joining Nottingham Forest in January 2023.
The pair enjoyed a good working relationship with his move to the East Midlands sanctioned reluctantly at the time. But Shelvey has consistently spoken highly of Howe and even though pressure is ramping up on the Newcastle United boss, he still believes he is the right man for the job.

"Yeah, I still fully believe he is," Shelvey told Sky Sports when asked if he still believes Howe is the right man for Newcastle.
"The games are on so late out here it is hard to sit down and watch them constantly but when there is a game on I will try my hardest to watch.
"I just don't think there is enough depth, in terms of decent depth, in the squad and they need to invest. Hopefully they can do that and hopefully next season will be better.
"There is always going to be demand because of what has gone on in the club over the past two to three years. So it is going to be interesting to see what they do over the summer but, for me, they should stick with Eddie because he is a top, top manager."
Under Howe, Newcastle have twice qualified for the Champions League and won the Carabao Cup last season. But their Premier League form this season has been a concern, with the Magpies languishing in 14th place with six games remaining.
Shelvey will soon learn all about the travails of management after announcing his retirement as a player before taking his first steps into management with UAE second division side Arabian Falcons.
