The Northern Irishman has been linked with several clubs during his four-and-a-bit years in charge of Ipswich, with top-flight clubs Crystal Palace, Brighton, Manchester United and Chelsea all having shown serious interest at different stages.
Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola announced yesterday that he will be leaving the Cherries this summer. Both The Athletic and the Bournemouth Echo have reported that McKenna is among a number of managers being considered as a replacement, with The i going as far as reporting that the 39-year-old would see it as 'the next logical step' for his career.
Brazil, a star during Ipswich's glorious FA Cup and UEFA Cup winning period in the late 70s and early 80s, was asked on his talkSPORT show this morning whether he saw McKenna staying on at Portman Road if promotion was secured.
He replied: "Unless a big club came in, yeah, because we've got American backers and there's money there."
Quizzed on whether that meant he felt Bournemouth weren't a 'big club', Brazil added: "They're not bigger than Ipswich. Bournemouth! What have Bournemouth won?! You're having a laugh, aren't you? Bournemouth have been brilliant, but of course Ipswich are a bigger club than Bournemouth. Guaranteed."
McKenna, who is contracted at Portman Road until 2028, said he had 'nothing to say' on the links following last night's 2-0 defeat at Portsmouth.
🚜 Brazil: "Bournemouth are not bigger than Ipswich! What have Bournemouth won!?"
😬 McCoist: "Ooooo... we've touched a nerve!"
Alan Brazil was fuming with the suggestion that #AFCB are a bigger club than #ITFC as Kieran McKenna is linked with the Cherries job! 👀 pic.twitter.com/ETi5YxsDmh
