Report: Newcastle not likely to sign Manchester United player amid interest from Europe

The idea that Newcastle United could sign Manuel Ugarte from Manchester United is remote, it seems.

Ugarte was strongly linked with a move to Newcastle United in 2023, before he joined Paris Saint-Germain from Sporting.

Hard choice – but who are you selling if you were in charge? 🤔

The Uruguay international would then join Manchester United in the summer of 2024 but has struggled to wholly convince.

Newcastle United are expected to rebuild their squad this summer, but it seems that Ugarte is unlikely to form a part of that.

European clubs more likely to sign Ugarte than Newcastle

That’s because, according to The Daily Mail, Newcastle aren’t considered a likely landing spot for the 25-year-old this summer.

While the Red Devils are reportedly willing to cut their losses on the £52million midfielder, clubs in Europe are considered more likely to sign Ugarte.

Michael Carrick has not used Ugarte regularly, with his start against Leeds on Monday night the first he has made under the former England international.

The report claims that Galatasaray, Juventus, Ajax and Napoli are more likely to land him at the end of the season.

It’s also said that Newcastle potentially being interested in the midfielder might suit the Old Trafford giants, because Manchester United are interested in Sandro Tonali.

At this stage, however, Ugarte appears to be destined for a move away from the Premier League.

It will be fascinating to see how the Newcastle midfield looks next season.

Indeed, Manchester United are also interested in Bruno Guimaraes, and players are expected to leave this summer.

As it stands, it’s difficult to imagine a world in which Newcastle sell both of Guimaraes and Tonali in the same transfer window.

Still, what’s clear is that there will be personnel changes. For so long, central midfield was Newcastle’s greatest strength, but everything now appears to be up in the air.

Either way, it does not look as if Ugarte will form part of that rebuild.
