Daniel Farke’s Leeds United are back in Premier League action on Saturday, as they welcome Wolves to Elland Road.

The Whites secured a sensational result on Monday, with a Noah Okafor brace aiding them on their way to a 2-1 win against Manchester United – their first league win at Old Trafford since 1981.

Now sitting six points clear of the bottom three, the pathway to safety has fully opened up for Farke’s side, with an additional win this weekend practically guaranteeing another year of top-flight football.

Opponents Wolves have spent all 32 matchweeks in the bottom three, with relegation seemingly a certainty since Leeds took all three points through a 3-1 win at Molineux back in September.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s clash, more of the same will be expected from Farke as his side looks to pull away from the drop zone further.

Ao Tanaka performance vs Manchester United earns him successive start

Whites fan-favourite Ao Tanaka has operated on the periphery for large parts of the season, after shining during the ascent last term.

The Japanese midfielder has been linked with a move away recently, but his performance in the middle of the park on Monday has surely seen him earn his spot in the team for the time being.

Premier League appearances Two goals, 22 games, eight starts

FA Cup appearances Two goals, four games, four starts

The 27-year-old would be substituted in the second half with a knock, though this could likely have been part of the plan as Leeds wound down the clock.

The simple fact of the matter is that if Tanaka is fit, he starts.

After the performance at Old Trafford, it should be more of the same for Farke as Leeds welcome Wolves to Elland Road.

The West Yorkshire outfit does remain without multiple players, though.

The star signing of the summer, Anton Stach, will continue to sit out until the end of the month, alongside Welsh pair Dan James and Joe Rodon, who are both suffering from ankle issues.

Wolves fixture a big bonus for Leeds after Manchester United triumph

After a string of draws heading into the international break, the coming Wolves fixture was earmarked by fans as the day the survival bid could be put back on track.

Rivals West Ham and Nottingham Forest were able to claw back ground on the Whites either side of the pause, somewhat undoing some of the great progress made during the early stages of the year.

Now, the clash against the basement dwellers this weekend is an added bonus that could secure Leeds’ place in the division before the run-in even starts.

Sitting at the bottom of the standings with relegation all but a certainty, the pressure would have been off from a Wolves perspective, while the opposite would have been said for the hosts.

Instead, Farke’s side can now play out the encounter as they want, rather than the win-or-bust clash presented just a few weeks ago.

With a big FA Cup semi-final coming the week after, the Whites have the chance to build momentum and thoroughly enjoy the end of what has been a fantastic season, all things considered.
