Liverpool’s summer transfer plans have been jolted by Hugo Ekitike’s devastating injury, with the Reds now facing a fresh rethink in attack.
The French forward was stretchered off during Liverpool’s 2-0 defeat to PSG. Ekitike ruptured his right Achilles tendon, and the early expectation is that he will be out for around nine months in the best-case scenario, a timeframe that would wipe out the rest of 2026 for the 23-year-old.
The club were already staring at the need to replace Mohamed Salah and reshape the frontline, but Ekitike’s long-term absence means they now have to do virtually the same job twice, with interest in Anthony Gordon and Iliman Ndiaye being reignited as the club look to add real depth and quality before next season.

Anthony Gordon and Iliman Ndiaye top list as Liverpool seek ‘at least two’ attackers
Liverpool are now pushing for ‘at least two’ attacking additions, with the injury forcing a much bigger outlay than first expected.
A report from TEAMtalk claims the recruitment team had already been planning to strengthen in wide areas, particularly on the right, but Ekitike’s injury has accelerated plans for another forward to arrive as well.
Newcastle’s Gordon is said to be firmly back in the frame amid rumours of Bayern interest, while Ndiaye also remains high on the club’s list of targets.
Gordon makes plenty of sense because of his Premier League pedigree, versatility and long-running links with Anfield, but Ndiaye arguably feels like the better fit if Liverpool want a player capable of offering unpredictability and threat across the line.

The obvious issue, of course, is that Everton would have no desire whatsoever to sell their best player to their biggest rivals. Liverpool swooping for Ndiaye would send the blue side of the city into a frenzy.
The report also names Yan Diomande, Francisco Conceicao, Jarrod Bowen, Harry Wilson and Bazoumana Toure as players on the radar, while it is fair to assume Liverpool are also looking at other options around Europe as they reassess the market.
One thing is for sure — FSG are going to have an even busier summer than expected after the Ekitike blow, and what looked like a frontline refresh now feels much closer to a full attacking rebuild.
