'I am sad': Alexis Mac Allister gutted that £34m star is leaving Liverpool soon

Mohamed Salah’s last European night as a Liverpool player ended in disappointing fashion.

The Egyptian did not start the clash but was brought on in the first half after Hugo Ekitike suffered an injury.

However, Salah could not prevent Liverpool losing to PSG on the night and exiting the competition. Alexis Mac Allister has now opened up on the winger departing Anfield at the end of the season.

Alexis Mac Allister ‘sad’ Mohamed Salah is leaving Liverpool

Salah’s relationship with Slot seemed to break down at the back end of 2025 following his post-Leeds United interview.

Fences appeared to have been mended once he returned from the AFCON, and the Egyptian was playing regularly.

But Salah, who arrived for £34m in 2017, is now leaving for free a year before his contract was actually due to expire, and his exit leaves Mac Allister ‘sad’.

Speaking to CBS Sports post-PSG, he said: “I can only smile when you speak about him. He’s a really good lad, he gave everything, he’s one of our leaders. Not just by talking, but the way he goes into football. How professional he is. For us, he’s an example, he’s a leader.

“Of course, I am sad that we’re going to lose him. But that’s football, and I cannot maybe speak about his situation because it’s something between him and the club.

“It’s sad to lose him, he’s a really important player for us, we can only enjoy these few games with him, and hopefully he can receive the farewell that he deserves.”

Arne Slot on rebuilding Liverpool after Mohamed Salah exit

Alongside Salah, Liverpool fans will also have to wave goodbye to long-time servant Andy Robertson this summer.

Their exits will leave big gaps in the squad and Slot spoke about how the Reds are now facing a ‘big challenge’ in the summer.

As per Sky Sports, he said post-PSG: “Much has been said that the club is in a transition. The club has sold 8-10 players to make money to sign five or so very talented players.

“We have to sell to buy. We are losing some players on a free transfer, Mo Salah and Andy Robertson.

“It is a big challenge in the summer but the club has shown this model works. As I said many times the future looks very good, especially if we can sign players after good players leaving this summer.”
