Liverpool forward Hugo Ekitike suffered an ankle injury during a 2-0 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night, which is set to end his season prematurely and therefore rule him out of their upcoming trip to Old Trafford.
After crashing out of the Champions League and losing 4-0 on aggregate against Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool’s night was made worse after losing Hugo Ekitike to a serious ankle injury at about the half-hour mark.
The non-contact injury led to Ekitike clutching his right ankle before requiring a stretcher to leave the pitch.
While Liverpool head coach Arne Slot avoided revealing the diagnosis of Ekitike’s injury, there were immediate doubts over whether the France international had kicked a ball for the last time this season.

Hugo Ekitike faces nine-month absence with ankle injury
Slot described Ekitike’s injury as “not good” in his post-match press conference, as per Sky Sports.
The Dutchman did not provide any specifics, but it has now emerged that Ekitike is unlikely to play again until next season, which will rule him out of Liverpool’s match against Manchester United at the beginning of May.
According to the printed edition of L’Equipe, as cited by Get Football News France, Ekiteke has ruptured his right Achilles tendon.

Hugo Ekitike has unhappy memories against Man Utd
Ekitike has only played against United once so far in his career.
The 23-year-old came off the bench to play the final 28 minutes against United at Anfield earlier this season.
United beat Liverpool 2-1, and Ekitike was unable to have a positive impact on the game for Slot’s side.
Although Ekitike struggled against United, the former Eintracht Frankfurt star has scored 17 goals for Liverpool in his first season at the club.
