Sunderland face Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Aston Villa have received a potential triple injury boost ahead of their Premier League clash against Sunderland this weekend, with a number of key talents returning to first team training.
Unai Emery’s side play host to the Black Cats at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon, with both teams harbouring hopes of European qualification pushes during the latter stages of the campaign. For their part, Villa currently sit fourth in the top flight table, while 10th-placed Sunderland are just two points adrift of Chelsea in sixth.
Of course, the Villans are already competing on the continent this term, and, at the time of writing, are preparing for a Europa League quarter-final second leg clash with Serie A outfit Bologna on Thursday evening. Emery’s men hold a commanding 3-1 aggregate advantage heading into that contest at Villa Park, and it would appear that their ranks may be bolstered for both that game and Sunday’s meeting with Sunderland.
What is the latest Aston Villa injury news?
On Wednesday morning, Villa took part in a first team training session during which Emi Martinez, Tyrone Mings, and Jadon Sancho were all involved, with the trio having missed out on last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.

Goalkeeper Martinez withdrew from Sunday’s clash due to a calf complaint, and is now expected to be monitored ahead of a potential comeback against Bologna. Similarly, defensive stalwart Mings also missed out at the City Ground, but could be back in midweek. Sancho, meanwhile, has been sidelined with a shoulder injury sustained during a friendly against Spanish outfit Elche CF.
In a press conference later in the day, Emery then explained: "Martinez is training with us. Normally he will be available tomorrow, and tomorrow we will decide."
On Sancho, he added: "He’s coming back and of course he’s a fantastic player. He needs to be consistent and I think he is being demanding. He adapted in our structure, getting better. It’s a pity he was injured as he finished before the international break fantastic."
