A former Newcastle United star has urged the club to stick by Eddie Howe.
Jonjo Shelvey has backed under-fire Eddie Howe to turn the tide at Newcastle United.
For the first time in four-and-a-half years at St James’ Park, the Toon boss is facing growing calls to step down. Newcastle currently sit 14th in the Premier League following another capitulation at Crystal Palace on Sunday.
At present, Howe retains the faith of the Newcastle hierarchy. David Hopkinson strongly suggested to reporters 10 days ago that the situation will be monitored in the summer.

Jonjo Shelvey backs Eddie Howe
Speaking to Sky Sports, Shelvey - who announced his retirement today to become Arabian Falcons manager - tipped Howe as the right man for the Magpies. The 34-year-old spent the latter stages of his Newcastle career working under former Bournemouth man.
"Yeah, I still fully believe he is,” Shelvey said when asked if Howe could take United forward. “The games are on so late out here. It is hard to sit down and watch them constantly but, when there is a game on, I will try my hardest to watch.
"I just don't think there is enough depth, in terms of decent depth, in the squad and they need to invest. Hopefully, they can do that and hopefully next season will be better.
"There is always going to be demand because of what has gone on in the club over the past two to three years. So it is going to be interesting to see what they do over the summer but, for me, they should stick with Eddie because he is a top, top manager."
Eddie Howe remains committed
Speaking before the Palace defeat, Howe reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to Newcastle. He told reporters: "For me, nothing has changed. I'm absolutely 100 per cent committed to the job. That commitment has never wavered from my side.
"I've been working during the break to make sure that we come back a stronger team. I think, in this day and age, it's very difficult to look too far in the long-term. I can only look at these seven games and make sure that we perform at our very best level."
