Liverpool now eyeing move to sign 'elite' star who Yamal said was his toughest opponent - report

Liverpool have identified the man who they want to replace the outgoing Andy Robertson this summer, according to talkSPORT.

The Scotland international confirmed last week that he will depart Anfield after nine years at the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, joining Mohamed Salah in finding a new challenge, with suggestions that he already has an agreement in place to move to Tottenham if they avoid relegation.

That means a new left-back will be sought after in the upcoming summer transfer window, and the Reds have been paying close attention to one star in particular as a possible option.

Liverpool Eyeing David Raum

According to a report by talkSPORT, RB Leipzig star David Raum has now been earmarked as a potential target to replace Robertson as Anfield as the new left-back.

Raum, who has been described as 'elite', is understood to have caught the eye of Anfield chiefs this season while they have keeping tabs on his teammate and forward Yan Diomande. Milos Kerkez was brought in last summer, but with Robertson and loanee Kostas Tsimikas set to move on, a new option is necessary.

It's understood that Leipzig are not entirely against a sale, with the 27-year-old entering the final year of his contract this summer, and it's believed that he could be available for a price that is cheaper than alternative options.

Raum has got experience at the top level having played in the Champions League and at international level for Germany, where he played against the likes of Barcelona sensation Lamine Yamal, who named Raum as his toughest opponent to date.

There is no potential fee mentioned for a deal, but Liverpool are expected to have money to spend once again should they qualify for the Champions League, and a busy summer window is expected.
