Sunderland are firmly interested in signing Leicester City forward Abdul Fatawu this summer, with the Championship side now willing to sanction a transfer for a cut-price fee.
The Black Cats' interest in strengthening their attacking options comes amid doubts about Brian Brobbey's future, with Bayern Munich plotting a shock swoop for the striker, who scored a dramatic late winner in the 2-1 derby victory against Newcastle United.
Brobbey leads the way for Regis Le Bris' side in terms of goals scored in the Premier League, albeit the majority of the 50-year-old's players haven't exactly been prolific, with only three members of the squad scoring more than twice from open play.
Sunderland's top scorers Goals Penalties
Brian Brobbey 6 0
Chemsdine Talbi 4 0
Wilson Isidor 4 0
Enzo Le Fee 4 3
With that in mind, it is little wonder the Stadium of Light outfit remain keen on bringing in fresh attacking options in the summer, and they now hold a firm interest in a Championship star.
Sunderland readying move for Abdul Fatawu
According to a report from Football Insider, Sunderland are now 'ready to reignite' their interest in Leicester winger Fatawu, who is 'ready to jump' at the opportunity to test himself in the Premier League.

The Ghanaian has a £30m release clause included in his contract, but the Foxes are now offering a 33% discount, with it being revealed they are ready to offload the 22-year-old, who is one of their most important players, for just £20m.
With Leicester on the cusp of relegation to League One, they aren't exactly in a position to play hardball, although West Bromwich Albion being handed a points deduction could offer them a route out of danger, and the Baggies' likely punishment has now emerged.
Gary Lineker is a huge fan of the forward, saying after Leicester's 3-2 victory against Southampton last season: "The game really changed when Abdul Fatawu came on. As a Leicester fan, my kids follow Leicester as well. Every time we see the teamsheet and he's not in it, we go, 'oh no, not again. Why is he not playing? This kid is special.'"
Fatawu has been a shining light in a poor Leicester side, picking up nine goals and seven assists in 41 Championship appearances.

Sunderland have been rocked by the rumours that Bayern Munich are interested in a summer move for Brian Brobbey.
Le Bris downplays Sunderland's European chances
A move to the Stadium of Light may be even more appealing if Sunderland qualify for Europe, but Le Bris downplayed his side's chances after the 1-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur, saying: “For me, it’s not in my mind at the minute because we are 10th.

“It’s brilliant, so the main objective of the club was to stay in the league, now it’s achieved. The vision – I don’t know when – is to be a consistent top-10 club in the Premier League. After that, if you are consistent at that level depending on the table, sometimes you can reach another level. We’ll see.”
