Liverpool are reportedly stepping up their pursuit of Anthony Gordon following a major injury setback to Hugo Ekitike, with the winger now firmly back on the club’s shortlist ahead of the 2026 summer window.
According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool have accelerated their plans to recruit an additional forward after learning that Ekitike is expected to be sidelined for at least nine months.
Liverpool’s interest in Gordon is well established, with the club having previously come close to signing the winger from Newcastle United FC during the summer of 2024.
At the time, Newcastle were dealing with financial pressures linked to Profit and Sustainability Rules, creating a window of opportunity that Liverpool explored before the deal ultimately fell through.
Now, with fresh attacking reinforcements required, Gordon is said to be “firmly back in the frame” as a leading candidate.
The England international is also widely known to be a Liverpool supporter from childhood, a factor that could prove influential if a transfer battle develops.

Injury to Ekitike forces rethink in Liverpool’s attack
The long-term absence of Hugo Ekitike has reportedly been the key trigger behind Liverpool’s renewed urgency in the transfer market.
With the forward expected to miss a significant portion of next season, Liverpool’s recruitment team are believed to have fast-tracked plans to add another high-quality attacker capable of making an immediate impact.
This development fits into a broader attacking reshuffle already expected at Anfield, particularly with Mohamed Salah set to leave when his contract expires.
Losing Salah’s output alongside Ekitike’s absence would leave a substantial gap in Liverpool’s attacking depth, making the pursuit of a proven Premier League performer like Gordon an increasingly logical move.
Bayern Munich and Arsenal also circling
Liverpool are unlikely to have a clear run at Anthony Gordon, with multiple European heavyweights monitoring his situation.
Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany has reported that Bayern Munich have made Gordon their top target for the left-wing position.
?? FC Bayern are seriously considering a move for Anthony #Gordon.
The 25 y/o is currently the preferred candidate for the left wing as a back-up and competitor for Luis Díaz.

According to Plettenberg, Bayern have already held concrete talks with the player’s camp. The winger is also said to be attracting attention from Arsenal FC, further intensifying what could become a major transfer race in the coming months.
Despite the growing interest, Newcastle United FC are understood to be keen to retain the 25-year-old and would likely demand a substantial fee — potentially rising toward the £95m mark — before considering a sale.
