Man United have been linked to signing Newcastle United central midfielder Sandro Tonali ahead of the summer.
It is understood that Tonali would be willing to make a move to Old Trafford in the summer, as he wants Champions League football. But, he could cost upwards of £100m, which could be tough.
Man United should sign Agoume instead
If Tonali were to cost more than £100m in the summer, it could be difficult for Man United to complete a deal, as they won’t want to overspend, especially considering they spent over £200m last summer on new players.
So, United could look for a potential alternative instead. We decided to put Tonali’s name into Data MB’s Player Comparison Tool, and it suggested La Liga midfielder Lucien Agoume, who has previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Agoume, 24, is a physical defensive midfielder, and according to Data MB’s stats, he has better numbers than Tonali with regards to possession won, progressive passes, and forward passes.
So, he has better stats both in winning the ball, and in transition into attack, which is exactly what many people would commend Tonali on. Furthermore, Agoume is expected to cost less than £30m, so Man United could get a similar style of player for a fraction of the cost, it seems a no brainer.
Tonali is United’s first choice
As things stand, reports claim that Man United’s first choice is Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, as the Italian international wants Champions League football next season, something that the Magpies likely won’t be able to offer.
It is understood that Tonali could command a hefty £100m transfer fee, which is a lot. But, seeing as Elliot Anderson is expected to cost at least £80m, it seems to be the way the market is going with these top Premier League midfielders.
