Former Rangers academy chief Craig Mulholland will be appointed the SFA's new chief football officer.
The Athletic report that Mulholland will depart Nottingham Forest in the summer and return to Glasgow to take up his new role with the governing body north of the border.
He returns to the Scottish FA having previously worked un youth development roles in the early 2000s.
Mulholland spent two decades at Ibrox, most recently heading up the Ibrox club's academy.
He worked closely with former Gers sporting director Ross Wilson at the City Ground.
Wilson departed for Newcastle last October, and now Mulholland will depart Forest at the end of the season, along with global head of talent Edu.
Mulholland replaces Andy Gould on Hampden's sixth floor, who spent 30 years with the national association before heading to FIFA as a high performance specialist.
Along with colleague Chris Docherty, Gould authored a report on player transition pathways between the ages of 16 and 21, which concluded that Scotland was left in the dust by other nations when it came to producing homegrown players for the first team.
One of Mulholland's first tasks will be whether or not he implement's his predecessor's recommendations.
