Sky Sports: Liverpool begin work on signing £42m Salah replacement, he's like a "young Mane" -…

Liverpool’s work in the transfer market last summer handed the fanbase the excitement needed to build on the Premier League success achieved the year prior.

Seven months on from the £450m spending spree, it’s safe to say that the additions have been a disaster, but largely due to the respective injuries suffered by the new arrivals.

Alexander Isak missed a huge chunk of the campaign after suffering a broken leg against Spurs, whilst centre-back Giovanni Leoni has only featured once after suffering an ACL injury.

Hugo Ekitike is the latest summer addition to suffer a long-term injury, with the Frenchman now ruled out for up to nine months after rupturing his achilles in Tuesday’s defeat against PSG.

As a result, Arne Slot and the hierarchy will no doubt be targeting added reinforcements this summer, with the attacking department an area that once again needs bolstering.

Liverpool make approach to sign £42m star this summer

A new winger has been needed in recent months, but the importance of added reinforcements has been bolstered after Mohamed Salah announced he’d be leaving Liverpool this summer.

Over recent weeks, RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande has been touted as just one potential option, with the Ivorian set to be one of the most in-demand talents this summer.

The 19-year-old has already registered 17 combined goals and assists so far this term, with the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal also keen on a deal for the teenager.

However, Diomande isn’t the only Bundesliga talent currently in their sights, with Hoffenheim star Bazoumana Toure another option being considered by the Reds hierarchy.

According to Sky Sports Germany, Slot’s men have already made an approach for a potential deal for the 20-year-old, who has registered three goals and eight assists in the Bundesliga this season.

The report states that the Reds are the first team to reach out to the German club over a deal to land the Ivorian, with his current club expecting to offload him this window.

It’s previously been stated that a fee in the region of €50m (£42m) would be needed to secure his signature, but it remains to be seen how much Slot’s side would present to land the winger.

Why Toure would be Liverpool’s next Sadio Mane

Every winger that joins Liverpool in the present day will have a huge expectation placed upon them, largely because of the levels produced by Sadio Mané at Anfield.

The Senegalese international spent six years on the books on Merseyside, subsequently featuring 269 times and finding the back of the net on 120 occasions.

He was part of the deadly front three alongside Salah and Roberto Firmino, with the trio arguably being one of the division’s best-ever attacking forces.

Mane often wowed fans with his direct dribbling, pace and clinical finishing - something which they have desperately lacked off the left-hand side of the attack in recent times.

Cody Gakpo currently features in such a role at present, but a summer move for Toure could allow the Reds to have their next version of Mane for the long-term future.

Bazoumana Toure for Hoffenheim

The 20-year-old would no doubt have huge boots to fill should he make the move to Anfield, but his stats from the current campaign highlight why he would be an excellent addition.

The Hoffenheim star has created 1.7 chances and completed 1.5 crosses per 90 this campaign - with the latter ranking him in the top 7% of all attackers in the Bundesliga.

Toure has also completed 2.1 successful dribbles so far this term, doing so at a 45% success rate - which highlights his excellent ability to glide past the opposition.

The Ivorian’s talents in the Bundesliga are further reflected in his incredible tally of 5.1 touches in the opposition box per 90 and 1.7 aerials won - with such qualities very similar to those of Mane.

His performances haven’t gone unnoticed to many, with journalist Bence Bocsak labelling the Ivorian as a “young Sadio Mane” after his showings in Germany this term.

£42m for a player of Toure’s quality could prove to be an excellent piece of business, with the 20-year-old having bags of time to improve further throughout his career.

Given his comparison to Mane, the deal would no doubt excite the supporters and allow them to somewhat forget about the recent injury issues on Merseyside.

The interest from elsewhere must see the Reds act quickly to avoid missing out on his signature and potentially see one of their rivals land a top young talent.
