Tottenham could revive interest in PL one-club man with over 220 senior appearances

Tottenham are plotting a double transfer raid on Liverpool.

It has been widely reported lately that Tottenham Hotspur are in pole position to sign Liverpool star Andy Robertson this summer.

Liverpool announced earlier this month that Robertson is leaving Anfield after nine years at the club when his contract expires this summer. The likes of Juventus, Atletico Madrid and Napoli have all registered their interest in snapping up the Scotland skipper on a potential free transfer, but it is Tottenham who have reached an agreement over personal terms with him. Any deal, however, is contingent on Spurs staying in the Premier League.

The North Londoners have a long-term interest in Robertson and tried to sign him in the winter transfer window. However, Liverpool’s failure to find an adequate replacement forced the 32-year-old to stay put. Curtis Jones was another Liverpool player on the radar of Spurs during the mid-season trading period.

Tottenham could revive interest in Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones

Owing to injury problems, Tottenham wanted to add another midfielder to their ranks after signing Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid, and Curtis Jones was targeted. The English midfielder has featured in 43 games across all competitions this season, but has started only 22 times. Alexis Mac Allister, Dominic Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch are preferred over him in the midfield setup by coach Arne Slot.

Jones perhaps felt in January that it was time to become more of a guaranteed starter, which put Tottenham and Inter Milan on red alert over his availability. Eventually, a move away from his boyhood club didn’t materialise. However, things could change in the summer.

According to a report from The Daily Mail, Tottenham could look to reignite their interest in Jones if they beat the drop under Roberto De Zerbi. Inter Milan also remain keen, having failed to snap him up on loan a few months ago.

At 25, Jones has made 222 senior appearances for the Reds since making his debut back in 2019. He has been a reliable performer, but at this stage of his career, the versatile central midfielder should be playing regularly to fulfil his high potential. The England international will enter the final year of his contract in the summer, and if new terms aren’t agreed, Liverpool could opt to cash him in.

Curtis Jones’ signing would make complete sense

Technically secure and tactically versatile, the Liverpool star would be a smart addition to Tottenham’s midfield unit. Jones is adept at keeping possession, carrying the ball, creating chances and chipping in with crucial assists and goals. He’d clearly be an upgrade over Yves Bissouma, who is out of contract in N17 at the end of the season.

Getting Robertson and Jones from Liverpool would be fantasy stuff for De Zerbi’s Tottenham, given the kind of quality, experience and pedigree they carry, as well as ticking the box of homegrown status. However, the duo’s acquisitions would only be possible if Spurs keep their top-flight status intact.
