Liverpool injury news on Hugo Ekitike, Alisson Becker, Joe Gomez, Wataru Endo and more.
It is official - Liverpool will end the 2025-26 season trophyless.
In truth, few would have predicted that the Reds would not win silverware last August. Liverpool had cruised to the Premier League title in Arne Slot’s maiden season and spent around £450 million in the transfer market. Yet Liverpool have gone backwards this term.
The 4-0 aggregate loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter-finals curtailed any hopes of a prize being added to the Anfield trophy cabinet. As a result, head coach Slot has come under pressure from among sections of supporters. And perhaps the only way the Dutchman will remain in the Liverpool hot seat is if qualification for next season’s Champions League is achieved.
Liverpool are fifth in the Premier League table and have six games remaining. Amid a heated battle with Manchester United, Aston Villa and Chelsea, there is going to be little margin for error. After the disappointment of losing to PSG, the attention turns to another huge game against Everton in the maiden Merseyside derby at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Sunday.
Injuries have been a factor in the Reds’ troubles. Slot will want as many players fit and available. for the remainder of the season. With that in mind, here’s a look at Liverpool’s current injury list.
Joe Gomez - muscle
The defender was introduced as a half-time substitute against PSG but lasted 22 minutes. Gomez admitted he felt he could pick up an injury if he carried on sprinting, according to Slot. Gomez will likely be assessed.
Potential return game: Everton (A), Sunday 19 April.
Alisson Becker - hamstring
The No.1 goalkeeper has missed the past four games because of a hamstring injury. Ahead of PSG, Slot admitted that Alisson still had not trained. The expectancy is that the Brazilian might be back towards the end of the month.
Potential return game: Manchester United (A), Sunday 3 May.
Wataru Endo - ankle
The midfielder has been missing for the best part of two months after being stretchered off in a 1-0 win at Sunderland. Endo’s main aim will be to return in time to captain Japan at the World Cup. Slot hopes that the ex-Stuttgart man will be fit before the season’s end.
Potential return: N/A
Conor Bradley - knee
The right-back continues his recovery from a serious injury. He has been sidelined for two-and-a-half months.
Potential return: Pre-season.
Giovanni Leoni - ACL
The summer signing from Parma is still on the mend after sustaining his unlucky problem on debut last September. Leoni has been photographed out on the grass at the AXA Training Centre.
Potential return: Pre-season
Hugo Ekitike - Achilles
The centre-forward went down innocuously against PSG. While Ekitike tried to continue three times, it was clear he was in too much pain. The suspensions are that Ekitike could spend potentially the rest of the year on the treatment table.
Potential return: N/A
Stefan Bajcetic - hamstring
It is approaching 11 months since the midfielder picked up his issue on loan at Las Palmas and required surgery. Bajcetic has had several setbacks and not made an appearance at any level this season.
Potential return game: N/A
Jayden Danns - hamstring
The striker suffered wretched luck on his return to action for the under-21s last month. Having been absent for around six months, Danns had to be forced off in the 29th minute of a clash against Man City. Young Reds boss Rob Page somewhat allayed fears but Liverpool are going to have to be careful and Slot may have to decide if he’s ready to make a first-team return if Danns overcomes his issue.
Potential return game: N/A
